Luxury adventure travel for women

Beyond the Ordinary

Registan Square at six in the morning. A helicopter dropping you onto an untracked face in the Caucasus. Fifteen days on the Rovos with no wifi and nowhere to be. We design the trips that women spend a decade circling and then take exactly once before rearranging the rest of their travelling around them.

Destinations we are travelling this season

  • Samarkand
  • Heli-skiing the Caucasus
  • Rovos Rail
  • The Swiss Alps
  • AlUla, Saudi Arabia
  • Serengeti under canvas
  • Murren

The name

The red camellia is the hardest one to find

Camellias grow in white, in pink, in a hundred cultivated variegations. A true deep red is the one collectors spend years chasing, and the one that has to be sought out deliberately, in the right place, at the right point in a very short season. It does not present itself. You go and find it.

We took the name because that is precisely how the women we work with travel. They are not looking for the itinerary that everybody has already taken. They want the morning nobody photographs, the guide who has worked one valley for thirty years, the country their friends have to look up.

Rarity is not something you are given. It is a decision you keep making, usually on your own, usually before anybody else agrees it is a good idea.

Some of our travellers are twenty-nine and have never been away without somebody else booking it. Some are seventy-four and have decided that waiting was the mistake. What they have in common is that they arrived at us already knowing what they wanted and needing somebody to stop treating it as unreasonable.

Our story
A woman travelling alone, pausing on a city street at dusk
Every trip we sell is one we have taken ourselves. Most of them we took alone, which is the reason we design them the way we do.

What changed

Three women, and what they came back with

A traveller standing on a high viewpoint at the end of the day
I had skied groomed runs for thirty years and told myself that was the ceiling. Red Camellia put me with a guide who did not once make me feel like a project. On the fourth morning I skied a bowl off the Schilthorn in fresh snow and had to stop halfway down because I was crying. I have booked the same week again. I am not treating it as a one-off any more, I am treating it as the thing I do.
MargueriteBernese Oberland, first off-piste season, age 58
A courtyard doorway opening onto warm afternoon light
My marriage ended in the February and I booked this in the March, mostly out of spite. I told them I wanted somewhere nobody would ask me about it. What I got was a country where I was interesting because I had arrived, not because of what had happened to me. I ate dinner alone in Bukhara without once feeling conspicuous. I came back knowing I could do the rest of it on my own, which was not the question I went out there to answer.
PriyaUzbekistan and the Silk Road, solo, eleven nights
Two travellers watching open country from a shaded vantage point
Fifteen days on a train with my mother sounded like a threat. There is no wifi, so by day three we had run out of small talk and started on the real conversations, the ones we had been circling for about a decade. We finished in a tented camp with the migration going past at dawn and neither of us said anything for twenty minutes. She is seventy-four. I am glad we did not wait.
